Your email address
We use your email address only to run your sailing. Every email Taranee sends is about something you did or are part of:
- sign-in and verification codes, and password resets;
- invitations to join a club;
- your entries, crew changes and duty roster;
- notices and amendments for events you entered;
- protests, hearings and decisions you are a party to;
- equipment inspections of your boat, and race results.
No newsletters, no marketing, and we never sell or share your address. We do not add you to mailing lists, and we do not use your address for anything other than the above.
What we keep, and why
- Your account: name, email, mobile number, date of birth and national authority, to sign you in and to check that you may enter an event (age groups, for example).
- Your emergency contact, if you give one, so the beach and the race committee can reach someone while you are on the water.
- Your boats, with sail numbers and measurement certificates.
- Your sailing: entries, start lists, sign-ins to and from the water, finishing times, penalties, protests and results.
- Check-ins and positions, where your club uses them: cards scanned at gates or meal points, and positions from boat trackers during a regatta.
- Juniors: a parent or guardian enters a young sailor and gives consent for them.
Who can see it
- Your club's administrators and officials see what they need to run its events: the entry list, contact details, and emergency contacts while a boat is afloat.
- Anyone can read an event's public page: its notice board, schedule, entry list and results, which show sailors' names, sail numbers and clubs.
- Each club's data is its own. Another club using Taranee cannot see yours.
- Taranee's own administrators see each club's name, its administrators' names and email addresses, and counts of its members, events and races. To help someone who cannot sign in, they can see which clubs an email address belongs to and whether it can sign in to each. They do not browse members' details, entries or results through their administration pages.
Emails are delivered through our mail provider. Pages load some scripts and fonts from public content networks (unpkg, jsDelivr, Google Fonts) and map tiles from OpenStreetMap, which see your IP address as any website does.
Verified clubs
Anyone can set up a club on Taranee. A ✓ Verified mark beside a club's name means Taranee's administrators have confirmed it is the club it says it is: for example with its national authority, or through the club's own published contact details. A club without the mark may well be genuine; it has not been checked yet.
Leaving, and deleting your data
You can deactivate your account at any time from your profile: you are signed out and cannot sign in again until your club reactivates you. To have your account deleted entirely, ask us through your club's administrator.
Results, protest decisions and other records of events you sailed in stay part of the club's record of that event, as they would on a paper results sheet.
During the public beta
Taranee is free while it is in beta, and everything here applies to the beta as it will afterwards. Your club's data carries over when the beta ends; nothing is reset. If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it.
